A quite Serious issue about the Modding Community

Hello there!

Just before the official release of Sneaky Tree Growing version 1.10 a big issue came along:
Every modder has a big issue currently. And that’s why we set our GitHub Repos for our Mods, Plugins and other Projects we released on CurseForge to private.

But first: What happened?

As you might know, on one of our Post here on this Website we mentioned the Anti-Piracy-Initiativ #StopModReposts. They fought against Reposting of the hard work developers did.
But on the 24.03.2023 they were going into a “low-maintenance-mode”. That means they will not update the list they maintained for sites which illegally uploads mods, plugins, worlds, add-ons, texturepacks and so on. You can read more on their official announcement from their Discord:

But what is now this quite serious issue?

Lately, CurseForge started to allow Open Sourced Projects to be re-uploaded on their own site. Yes: The trustworthy, friendly and popular Mod hub Website started to allow strangers who possibly can’t code to upload work from others and claim the ownership for it.

I do not have to tell you what kind of problem this is.
And not only small modders like we are had this issue: No! The Developer from Sodium and Iris had the same issue and CurseForge even told that they won’t remove the re-upload because “This is an Open Source project, so everyone can publish it” and this is not even a fair claim what CurseForge does. Most OS-licenses restrict the re-upload without permission.

The YouTuber TheMisterEpic have done a great job documenting the whole story in a Video:

So what are we doing?

We started to set every Git Repository we have public for the single projects on CurseForge to Private to combat these false claims from CurseForge.
But this is only a temporary solution. When we have more information about this and how we can combat it, we’ll let you know.

But for the time being we let everything on private.

So you are just going Closed Source to every project?

No! New Project will for now come Open Source and will only be published on Modrinth!
We do not to remove one of our first and most important principles. So stay tuned for more informations about this.

That’s all for Today. See you soon!
